2018-19 SEASON

Tuesday, January 29th, 2019

7:30PM, The Port Theatre

Contemporary dance, direct from Norway -- a project at the crossroads between two cultures. Using only a small sitting stool as his partner, award-winning dancer Sudesh Adhana embodies the struggles of a bicultural identity. Through seriousness and humour, MAN portrays the individual struggle for inner balance; unfolding as an expressive dialogue between Norwegian choreographer, Sølvi Edvardsen, and this remarkable dancer.
A tri-pro between Crimson Coast Dance Society, Dance Victoria, and The Port Theatre.

April 16 & 17, 2019
7:30PM | Nanaimo Art Council Gallery
This Spring — Daina Ashbee returns to her hometown of Nanaimo to present her riveting installation performance, Serpentine. The work (performed by Areli Moran) vibrates the essence of Ashbee’s dark and feminine pieces, and is intended as a short and intense summary of her previous three works: Unrelated (2014); When the ice melts, will we drink the water? (2016); and Pour (2016).

Serpentine depicts liberating strength within the intimate performance space of the Nanaimo Art Council Gallery; evoking endurance in both performer and spectator. It explores the violence of repressing the female body, and its innate capacity to abide.

*full nudity throughout.
**limited capacity venue.
