In this unique performance, Michael Ondaatje’s moving text leaps off the page as dance!
“What was immediately striking about Nann’s choreography was its eloquence. There were no extraneous movements; rather, like the sentences of Ondaatje’s thundering prose, every gesture was perfectly placed and meaningful”
–The Georgia Straight, June ‘04
Andrea Nann (Toronto) has created two stunningly beautiful dances under the directorial eye of Mr. Ondaatje himself that are based on his novel’s Anil’s Ghost and In the Skin of a Lion. Michael Ondaatje will present a 30 minute reading between these elegant and accessible dances.
Following the performance, there will be a reception and book signing with these artists. A portion of the proceeds from the book revenue and the reception ticket price are being donated to a Sri Lankan based, tsunami relief fund that is close to the heart of the Ondaatje family. It is called Helping Hands.
Please join us Saturday, May 6 at 7:30 and be a part of this extraordinary and unique experience.
Enjoy this lovely evening out.
Spoken Dance, choreographed and performed by Andrea Nann, Kate Holden and Gerald Michaud (Toronto) to the writings of Michael Ondaatje and to the music of live cello played by Anne Bourne is a major event for the City of Naniamo.
The Crimson Coast Dance Society is delighted to offer this remarkable occasion. Andrea Nann’s works are stunning, elegant, layered with metaphor while incredibly articulate. The combined artistic team has, together, created an evening of sensory delight. What a thrill to see Mr. Ondaatje's talents broaden into the dance studio. He was in the studio with Andrea as part of the process of making these memorable dance works based on his novels, In The Skin Of The Lion and Anil's Ghost. His works leap off the page, Andrea's choreography makes visible his imagery and that of Anne Bourne's Cello.
