THE SHOWS

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19:   "Klok", George Stamos (Montreal

7:30 pm Malaspina Theatre at VIU

Cloaking identity and intention with moving images, performance and sound, "Klok" maps a turn of mind where identity and relationships are more fluid than fixed. Performers Clara Furey and George Stamos shift between intimacy, brutality, humor and meditation as they perform communications between each other, the stage and the spectator. Stark and resplendent "Klok" offers a screen (both metaphorically and actually) at times filled by vivid imagery and at times a persistent and minimal invitation to project and reflect. This new piece by choreographer-artistic director George Stamos features performance/video intersections and electronically filtered voice hybrids. "Klok" is a co-production with The Baryshnikov Arts Center where it will be performed in New York in June 2010.  It has received creation support from The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, L’Agora De La Danse and Studio 303.

NOTE: This performance may include partial nudity

From denial to acceptance: whiteout.  Going through a long winter.  Features: Geneviéve Johnson, Filmmaker: Paul Manly, Musician: Patrick Graham (original score)

 “A Baroque Fear”

Water... Turmoil... Drowning... and the encounter of the beasts within. The self and its others.  Crossing the mirror to experience transformation.

Participants will be taught and guided towards building their dancing body from the inside out as they are asked to bring their imaginations into the flesh. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22 @ Harbour Dancentre, 139 Bastion Street:

Studio One:

10am to 11:30am: Butoh with Geneviéve Johnson

Through integrating mental imagery of nature and everyday life with the body, the workshop brings new tools for self-expression, through the discovery of new ways of perceiving the body, its movement and emotions

A typical training session includes 3 components:

            •            Through cardio, muscular and energetic training, we force the body to the abandonment that brings the necessary opening towards creation.

            •            Through mental imagery work, we build landscapes under the skin to destabilize the way we see our body and its movements.

            •            Through this exploration of new territories, we touch an individual and collective bodily memory with which we create a new way of dancing and choreographing.
